The New Web2Generators: Improved Tools and a New Home for WebAndSay

Welcome to the new Web2Generators! This release brings together our free web development tools, a redesigned interface, and the English blog archive previously published on WebAndSay. You can now move between a tool and the articles that explain how to use it, all on the same website.

The familiar generators are still here, with clearer controls, more useful options, and expanded instructions. There is also a new cURL command builder for preparing HTTP requests. All six tools are free to use without an account.

WebAndSay is now part of The Blog

We have merged WebAndSay’s English blog content into Web2Generators under The Blog. The migration brings over 39 English articles, retaining their original publication dates, wording, code samples, and images.

That history includes the original introduction to Web2Generators, as well as articles such as JavaScript language advanced tips and tricks and best CSS navigation menus and techniques. They remain part of the archive, with their original dates providing context for older technologies and advice.

Alongside those posts, we are publishing new guides and tool announcements. Shared topic tags and related articles make it easier to explore a subject across both tools and posts. The homepage highlights the six newest articles, and previous/next links help you continue reading.

Six tools for everyday web development

HTML encoding with clearer choices and references

The HTML encoder and decoder defaults to escaping HTML text while keeping accented letters and emoji readable. Need to encode quotes or use a broader set of named entities? Those choices are in Options. Decode mode turns character references back into text without rendering decoded markup.

The page also includes HTML5, HTML4, and XML reference tables, plus examples for several programming languages. It is useful when preparing visible code examples or reading entity-encoded text; HTML escaping is not a substitute for sanitizing arbitrary markup.

Lorem Ipsum as text, HTML, or lists

Our Lorem Ipsum generator now creates paragraphs, sentences, words, and list items, with plain-text or HTML output. Choose ordered or unordered HTML lists, and decide whether the result should begin with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet”. Output updates automatically as settings change.

Read the Lorem Ipsum update announcement for examples you can use to test spacing, wrapping, and page layouts.

bcrypt and APR1 password entries for Apache

The improved htpasswd generator offers bcrypt with costs 10, 11, and 12, plus Apache MD5 / APR1 for legacy compatibility. It includes random password generation, copy and download actions, and instructions for connecting the generated entry to an Apache configuration.

Our guide to the htpasswd update explains the formats, what bcrypt cost means, and why a higher setting affects both password guessing and server verification time.

CSS sprite selection with visual and numeric controls

The CSS sprite creator helps you select regions from an existing sprite sheet and generate their CSS. Load an image, move or resize selections, and adjust coordinates and dimensions numerically when you need precise values. A sample sheet is ready when you first open the tool.

You can manage several named sprites, preview the selected region, and copy the generated CSS. The image stays in your browser.

A new cURL command builder

The cURL command builder is new to the collection. Choose an HTTP method, enter a URL, add headers and a literal request body, then copy the resulting command. Advanced options include short flags, single-line output, and verbose output.

The builder prepares the command without sending the request. Its default multiline output is for POSIX shells; single-line output requires Bash or Zsh. Our cURL command guide explains basic requests and more advanced options for when you move to the terminal.

Upside-down text, with examples

The Write upside down tool remains a quick way to transform text and copy the result. Its expanded reference explains character substitutions, examples, and the limits of using Unicode characters to imitate rotated text.

A more useful interface on desktop and mobile

The new layout keeps the tool collection in a sidebar on larger screens and a navigation drawer on smaller ones. You can collapse the desktop sidebar to an icon rail. Opening a tool directly brings its selected navigation item into view, while following a sidebar link preserves the sidebar’s scroll position.

Dark mode is the default, with a light-mode switch in the profile settings. Your chosen mode is remembered when browser storage is available. Tool pages share consistent field actions, help buttons, and privacy information, with detailed explanations close to the controls they describe.

All six tools process their working data in the browser: text conversion, placeholder generation, password hashing, sprite selection, and command building do not require submitting that data to our server. Loading the website can still make network requests, including requests for advertising and analytics. The browser network inspection guide explains how to see what a page is doing.
