Lorem Ipsum Generator Update: HTML Markup, Lists and Flexible Openings
Need a few paragraphs for a page mockup, or a numbered list to check your CSS? Our improved free Lorem Ipsum generator now produces HTML markup as well as plain text, including ordered and unordered lists. You can also choose whether the text starts with the familiar “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” opening.
The result updates as you change the settings, so you can spend less time preparing placeholder content and more time working on your layout.
Copy placeholder text as plain text or HTML
Plain text is still the default, ready to paste into a design app, document, or visual editor. When you need content for a web page, open Options and change Output format to HTML markup.
The generator adds the elements around your text for you:

You see the HTML source in the output box, ready to copy. Paste it into your editor’s HTML or source view, or an HTML block that accepts markup. It supplies the content structure; your page’s CSS controls how it looks.
Generate unordered and ordered HTML lists
Lists can reveal layout problems that a paragraph misses: cramped bullets, awkward indentation, or numbers that sit too close to the text. Select List items, then choose HTML markup in Options to reveal List style.
Choose Unordered (bullets) for a bullet list. The output follows this structure, with fresh text each time:

Choose Ordered (numbers) when you want to try a numbered layout, such as a sequence of steps:

</ol>
Use a few items to check spacing, then try a longer list and narrow the window to see how lines wrap. In plain-text mode, list items use a hyphen on each line; the ordered/unordered setting is available for HTML output.
Start with Lorem Ipsum, or use a random opening
The Start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” checkbox is selected by default. Keep it checked when you want a recognizable placeholder opening. Uncheck it for a random start, which is useful when filling several cards or sections without giving every block the same first words.
The setting applies to the beginning of the generated result, rather than every paragraph or list item. In Words mode, requesting fewer than five words shortens the opening to fit your count.
Try the updated generator in four steps
- Open the Lorem Ipsum generator. It starts with three plain-text paragraphs.
- Choose Paragraphs, Sentences, Words, or List items.
- Open Options to adjust the count, output format, opening phrase, and HTML list style where available. Each valid change generates a new result automatically.
- Select Copy result and paste it into your project. Use Regenerate text, the circular-arrow button beside Copy, for another sample with the same settings.
You can generate up to 100 paragraphs, sentences, or list items, or up to 10,000 words. Generation runs in your browser and is free to use without an account.
